DIY Burnout

match.jpg

It’s been about 3 weeks since my last entry. At that time I was just wrapping up on kitchen work and we were preparing for a big party with about 40 of our closest friends.

That last week I was really sensing DIY burnout. I just didn’t have the motivation to get things done ahead of schedule like I normally do. That’s probably why so many DIY projects tend to get finished 95% of the way (it must happen to us all). But we had people coming over, so I did just enough each day to get it done right before the party. I was working until about 5:00 in the evening finishing up on baseboard trim, just enough time to relax and watch a little TV before guests started to arrive.

The good news is that the kitchen turned out fantastic. I honestly wouldn’t have done anything different. Of course I could always do everything more efficiently and faster if I did it again.

We received lots of compliments on the kitchen, but it was so packed with people that I’m not sure anyone could take a step back and appreciate the whole thing at once. It’s funny how people gravitate towards the kitchen at a party.

I spent most of the evening in the garage with the keg catching brief glimpses of a mouse running between objects at lightning speed. I think he’d regret ever trying to come into the house with our killer mouse dog on the prowl. And if that doesn’t do the trick, we have a cat too. My money is on the dog to catch it though.

I’ve got about 5 or 6 remaining kitchen projects to blog about before I show off the final product. There have been pictures and sitting in my camera for 3 weeks just waiting for the world to see, but no motivation on my part to have anything to do with them. Now I’ve had some time to regroup, and I’m ready to start blogging again.

Tomorrow I plan on spending a good 4-5 hours writing about my kitchen projects and hopefully get to a “final product” entry by the end of the day.

Coming up next:

  • Microwave installation
  • Refrigerator Installation
  • Stove Installation
  • Casing and Baseboard Trim
  • Vinyl window trim
  • Electrical outlet replacement
  • Kitchen Sink Plumbing modification (I’m a New Yorker now!)
  • The Finished Product
