Office Space- The finished product
Posted by Wayne
Finishing the office took me a couple of months just working on the weekends. I liked the finished office so much that I had to buy a 20″ iMac for the space rather than put my ugly old computer down there. My wife uses the office space to do her interior design work and we’re both down there frequently.
I also bought a pretty sweet set of Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II speakers off of Ebay and the subwoofer fit perfectly into the box I had built below the desk for that purpose. The sound in the room is incredible.
We also added a few extras like the shelf above the desk and the corkboard on the back wall.
The office space isn’t entirely 100% finished yet. I didn’t even bother tapping into the heat vent for the room because the entire house runs on one thermostat, and that’s upstairs. In other words, for it to be a comfortable temperature downstairs, it would have to be about 100 degrees upstairs. When I am finishing the unfinished part of our basement I will circle back and install a 220v baseboard heater in the room from behind the wall along with a thermostat. For now we are forced to use a little 110v desk heater to keep the room comfortable in the winter.
My wife would also like to replace the old 1970’s style brown door with an updated white version.
All in all, I’m blown away with how well the space turned out. I impressed me. I think this added some value to the house and it is a space that we use every day.
The finished product:
Total Cost: $600, Total Time: 60 hours

Thanks Kath, I appreciate it. As nice as the office turned out, it definitely wouldn’t have been the same without the iMac and sub woofer mounted under the desk.
